This king snake was camera shy…
I didn’t care to reach in and pull him out… While perfectly harmless, their mouths are equipped with teeth, and may as well face it, they prefer not to be handled.

Caught at first light, visiting the salvia microphylla.
Another tersa, this guy uses buttonweed as a host plant when he’s a hornworm, tomato worm looking caterpillar.
I caught one of these as a caterpillar last summer, and while he eventually crawled down off the plant into the sand, to make a cocoon, he never made the transtition into a moth.

Dunno which crinum this is, found bulbs in vacant lot where a friend was tearing down a house for the lumber.
This crinum has an unusual growth habit, sending out runners like the orange daylily that we all try to eradicate before it takes over the entire bed.

Anole on crinum leaf, practicing camouflage.
Edit: December 27 2011
A visitor suggested this crinum might be C. americanum.
On checking google, I discovered reference to those runners for C. americanum var robustum
I don’t recall the beaked fruit, but the colours mentioned sound right… Too bad the crinums are all frosted down, I can’t go check, until next summer.
When’s summer? I hate the cold!
Prompt idea by betray-the-night:
Anatidaephobia is the fear that somewhere, somehow, a duck is watching you. How about a prompt about someone who suffers from this, and what goes through their head. Better yet, what if a duck really was watching them?
HAHAHAHA this is literally the most random prompt I have ever received ever. And I’m so glad I found this perfect image to go with it. EVERYONE SHOULD SUBMIT TO THIS PROMPT.
Stupid ducks, watching my every move…
“Now here is a little peninsula, and…eh…here is a viaduct leading over to the mainland.” “
“Why a duck?” “I’m ok, how are you?”
